Events and Workshops
Neera is an experienced workshop facilitator and can adapt workshop programs to coincide with exhibitions or specific themes.
After a brief introduction to the history of this traditional craft, printmaker Neera Sehgal will guide participants in printing on cotton fabric or paper, using hand-carved woodblocks.
The relevance of printing on cotton fabric and the wooden block:
This centuries old craft exemplifies a skill carried through generations and India's ability to innovate and embrace printmaking on fabric, using locally produced cotton, printed with natural dyes and blocks carved from trees native to the land. During the workshop, participants will embrace the slow nature of this heritage craft and the connection it provides between cultures and generations. We are always evaluating our printing materials and use upcycled/end of roll cloth where possible and cotton rag paper, made from upcycled cotton.
All materials are provided. Currently we use water-based acrylic fabric inks but we are looking to incorporate natural dye inks in the coming months. Participants are recommended to wear clothes they don’t mind getting inky.
